The one with the lipstick that started it all.

lipstick overlay

At one point in my life I didn't like lipstick. It's bizarre to think back to that now - especially if you could see the craziness that is my current lipstick collection.

The story of the lipstick that changed everything started with ban.do randomly. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I found out about ban.do through Diana. When I clicked over to their website, I was excited to see that their current model was a beautiful redhead. I loved how they had her styled - simple makeup and a bright lip.

Antiquated makeup rules will tell you that a redhead has no business wearing bright pink, but the ban.do ads proved that wrong and inspired me to step out of my comfort zone.

I printed out the picture shown above and walked into a MAC store for the first time (that store was incredibly intimidating to me!). I showed one of the makeup artists the picture, and she grabbed a lipstick tube, saying it was a perfect match.

mac girl about town

I left the store with the Girl About Town lipstick and the MAC Beet lipliner. After that, I was sold. I now own quite a few MAC lipsticks and have found other lipstick lines I love, but Girl About Town will always have a special place in my collection. : )

Oh! And if you are interested, I wore Girl About Town in my latest OOTD video. : )

  1. Beautiful! I was just waxing nostalgic about lipstick myself, as I just popped into Ulta for another Revlon balm stain (romantic!). My mother told me for YEARS I should play up my lips and wear lipstick, and I just couldn't stand the thought. Now, I realize just how much of a pick-me-up it is when I put some on. And, to be honest, a lot of my inspiration to try came straight from you. :) xo

  2. The color is beautiful on you! I have just recently discovered that I look best with darker lip color. I don't know what took me so long but I always had it in my mind that some sort of nude or pink was best. I'm excited about my new revelation!

  4. I just started wearing lipstick this year...I had to start with one that matched my lip color. Now I've moved on to stains and brighter colors. I'm thinking of trying to find a red... :)

  6. I love this! I think everyone has a "lipstick story." You always think it's going to be awful, then you try it and you never go back :). And you look gorgeous in that color btw! xo
